Devin's Favorite 25 Video Games (Not Best)

I actually had 26 games, and I decided I had to delete one. #26 ended up being Metroid Fusion. The Metroid series is one I appreciate, but honestly not one of my favorite because I feel like many of it's games have unnecessary backtracking. I loved Metroid Prime, until I got to the Chozo artifcats. The original games, I got lost and bored. Metroid Fusion is fairly linear, and the only Metroid game I've beaten.

Banjo-Kazooie
Rare created an amazing world. I think Banjo Kazooie is great because of it's sound effects. Lynsey didn't really play video games, but we've laughed a few times making Kazooie sounds. And yes, I like Banjo Kazooie more than Super Mario 64.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Besides Zelda, this has the most memorable soundtrack. For me, Diddy and Dixie is just the ultimate combo of platforming physics. I love the levels, and it's my favorite platformer. Platformers are probably my favorite genre, so that's saying a lot.
Shadow of the Colossus
By far, the most unique gameplay and concept in gaming - and it was executed to perfection. No monsters or characters excpet you and a ton of incredible boss fights. Boss fights that took up to an hour to figure out and beat. I love it.
Super Mario Kart
Well first of all, it's the only Mario Kart game that doesn't have a blue shell, so that's a plus. In all seriousness, I love how tight the gameplay is. I just absolutely loved competing against my brother Kyler and flying across the course. The slightest mistake could put you out of the running for that track. I feel like I really bounded with my brother because of this game.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Somehow, Yoshi's Island has so much charm and maturity for being such a playful game. I love the Yoshi egg and flutter mechanic. I love that getting hit makes baby get carried away if you don't recover him quickly. And I love that last fight.
Tales of Symphonia
I just... really like Tales of Symphonia's story. It's my favorite RPG, hands down.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Yup, my friend Eddie hated this game so much that he asked his mom if he could give it to me. I didn't even ask. It took watching Kyler to figure out some of the gameplay - but once he did I was hooked. I don't remember if we completed it together or if I even played it on my own at first. But I think for me what really makes this my second favorite game is the puzzles in the dungeons and how the overworld can be completed in different orders and explored at your own pace. It's legend... wait for it... dary. Legendary.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Ocarina of Time blew my mind. I love everything about this game. There is never a slow moment. Anytime I got stuck with puzzles, there was always something to explore or a sidequest to complete. The gameplay and story are unprecedented. The world is rich with interesting characters. Exceptional dungeons, bosses, items and progression. Some games I don't think my kids would enjoy like I did - but I think Ocarina of Time will stand the the test of time.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Wind Waker has that awful quest to complete the game. Maybe there's a little too much sailing. Regardless, not only is it an amazing game - but important in my life. It got me into an internet forum I spent four years of my life on - and I made some great internet friends. Shout out to Nsider. Loves.
League of Legends
The Season 3 championship filled up the staples arena in Los Angeles. 27 million players play the game every day. League of Legends has become a real sport, with salaried 30-40 professional teams world-wide. The Season 3 championship had a prize pool of 2 million dollars. It's mainly the only video game I've played from 2012-current. It has such a simple concept, yet is so deep. I've never been into competitive video games until now, and the depth of character pool keeps me coming back over and over.
