List of the best songs ever recorded by the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. These are original Pink Floyd songs (no covers) either found on one of the band's 14 albums or released as a B-side or single. Pink Floyd is one of the most commercially successful bands in music history, selling over 250 million records, though they are perhaps best known for the concept albums "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall." These albums and others have proved massively influential, not just to other psychedelic and progressive rock bands, but musicians from a variety of styles and genres. Though various band members have played together during individual concerts or shows, Pink Floyd officially disbanded in 1994. Founding member Richard Wright died in 2008.
Pink Floyd was formed in 1965 by college friends Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Wright and Syd Barrett. Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour - who would go on to write and sing on a number of the band's popular songs - joined the group in 1967. Barrett, who had been the primary songwriter and lead vocalist during the band's early and more psychedelic years, departed the band in 1968 due to issues with mental illness and drug use. Barrett attempted unsuccessfully to pursue a solo career, but largely disappeared from the public eye until his death in 2006. A number of Pink Floyd songs - including many from the album "Wish You Were Here" - were dedicated to Barrett.
